This year has tested our endurance as we worked through my wife’s cancer surgeries and treatments, my knee surgery, and other little obstacles. Sometimes the outlook appeared bleak and hopeless but today bright skies open before us. Not unlike this vine from our yard. In July, hail stripped the vine and most of our plants bare and it seemed done for the season. And yet, on the first day of fall, the vine shared its reclaimed beauty with the world. Endurance: “2: the ability to withstand hardship or adversity; especially : the ability to sustain a prolonged stressful effort or activity.”

“Endurance is not just the ability to bear a hard thing, but to turn it into glory.” ~William Barclay

  1. i know what it is like to go through hardship and see that reflected in the garden. i had a similar situation with a fig tree that pretty much was a dead branch, but lo and behold it has even started fruiting! sometimes the garden is just a nice visual reminder that we need at times.
